I am happy that I am back to reading like I used to, long ago. When I was single, my weekend nights were spent reading, I used to start a book at 9 and go on till 3 or 4 in the morning. Sunday noon if no plans were made, I would cosy up in my bed with a book. Fortnightly Saturday morning visit to the library was mandatory. Me and brother would get 2 books each, which would last for 2 weeks. If I finished my set earlier than him, I would sneak in his books without him knowing and be smug with the knowledge of who was the mystery killer
Zack has zero interest in reading. Actually no one in the family reads here. MIL peruses old regional languages, for recipes and home remedies. His cousins are in the same boat, give them a book, they would sleep on it, rather than try to read few pages. Non technical books, that is π
Since the family has not had anyone sit quietly reading, they keep thinking as to how can one be so still and calm ( read it as not talking). Everyone in here is a talkative lot and they can’t be quiet for long, unless some engrossing stuff is playing out in the living room. Sunday evenings are quiet a scene. Everyone will be talking loudly, while I will be in my own world tucked with a book in a side. I am amidst them, but not with them. Such times would be rare though, if the kids have slept or they are engaged in playing.
Now why do I say that I am back to reading? Because I am able to devote one or two hours of dedicated reading time since a month or so. Once I am back from work, after cooking I get an hour or so, till Zack is home. Then after winding up for the night, I get another hour until he is done with fiddling with his smartphone or the laptop. I used to be really lazy earlier, to make some time for reading, but thanks to some engrossing books I have got my hands on, those are days of past. I have noted down some thrillers once my current lot is over, looking forward to get into some adventurous action reading too.
Currently I am reading Devotion of Suspect X and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Next up is Inferno.
Hope you had a lovely weekend lovelies. I had too π
In our case it is ulta. S is an avid reader and so is his mom and his dad. I have never read when I was child..Most of our times were spent on playing outside with kids..I used to think books were loner’s friends until I started reading..When I went to college I found myself out of place.. I seem to know very little about books. Infact it was S who persuaded me to read Jeffery Archer. He would give me books and keep tabs on me. I am glad he did that. Now I feel so happy when I read a book. I discuss it with S and the whole process is fun..I am glad you brought this up..I should definitely write more on this..
I used to play too, but when it came to books, I used to finish them in the noons and then run out in the evenings π
Oh do write in π
Khalid has a real talent for portraying pain in its raw form….
Inferno..Shall I kill the suspense ? π
Oh why would you do that π anyways, I have enjoyed many thrillers knowing who the antagonist is, mostly by guessing it at the start or by someone telling me..so you can go ahead π
Fantastic! U’re back to reading!! A Thousand Splendid Suns is amazing! Try Khaled Houseini’s new one, ‘And the Mountains Echoed’…..it made me cry!!
Its almost like being in ‘those days’ π
Yep, gonna read them soon!
Same same story here! S wont read even a line for even a million bucks (and I am not exaggerating) Sometimes I should read out to him, as he is very lazy to read π π I cant say how much my love and respect for books has grown ever since I have been living alone. There cant be a better companion than a good book!
And another same pinch – In-law family thinks I must be crazy to sit with a book for hours rather than watch Tv with them π
Zack once started reading a book, it wasn’t even a fiction, after 5 pages, he said the story started boring him. I checked it and found the author had started telling about his childhood, now what can be boring in reading a bygone era π
On weekends when Zack ditches me for family commitments or friend get-togethers or plain sleeping, its the books which make me happy, I can so understand you π
MIL thinks somethings happened to me and I am not talking when I quietly read π
Me too…since last ten days I am glued to shiva trilogy n now on the last pages of the last part… And Thousand splendid sun is a beautiful book. The author has amazing writing style. Read the kite runner too if you haven’t from the same author. Also watch the movie with the same name, tht is if you have not already. It’s one of the very rare movie that do total justice with the book.
hope you’ve read ‘the kite runner’ of the same author of TSS? If not, go for it and his new book is on stands π
not yet scribs, should do soon π
oh ok.. waise yeh comment OHW ke liye tha π
oopsie…I am commenting via the Dashboard..my bad π
lol just generally pointed out da, nothing to be sorry π
waise, I just realized, you asked OHW about Kite Runner if she had read it, while she had already mentioned that she has read the book as well as seen the movie π
opps something went wrong in my head I guess π wanted to write that to you me things π
Yeah, I already replied to your thoughts actually LOL
The Shiva trilogy is awesome, I read the first two long ago, read the third one only recently. Planning to read the trilogy again once I exhaust my current set of books. Thanks for the recos, should catch the book and movie soon π
yay…I am done with them just an hour back. Now you suggest me some and not the thriller ones.
There are few books in my to-read list which are non-thrillers, though till date I have only laid hands on this mystery genre π
Why dont you start with The Pregnant King by Devdutt Pattanaik. I am going to read all of his works, such fantastic reviews I have read of his writings π
Yes me too… and you wont believe I have the same book with me right now from the library, I read the first few pages but got onto the trilogy once that was delivered. I will get back to it π
omg, you mean you have The Pregnant King in your hand right now?? π―
Mother of all coincidences eh π
Yes π Not in my hand but yes on my bedside table to start tonight π
So we are birds of the same feather then π
I could see my old self in your first para π
I still ‘try’ to read and thankfully Husby reads too so that makes an environment π
The books that you are reading currently are fab fab fab!!
hello parchaai π
I picked up the former one based on fantastic reviews, the second one was given to me by a friend, and I am loving it π
Parchaai? love it π
π

lol no I’m sitting in longish meetings… so in between checking blogs π
Make it a habit π
i’m trying to bring it in my routine π π

Aaj kuch accha shagun hai π
lol yes but I’m still in office π¦
so late π―
π¦
Hugs
yeahhh adverse effects of sitting at this role π¦
I can relate to this post. Mom made it mandatory for me to go to library on Saturdays as a kid and I prefer a gud book book over mundane banter:)
Yay to your Mom who inculcated the reading habit π
Haa…same same story. For the past one month I have been locking myself up for at least 2 hours just to read. err I am not locking myself away from the husband or the kids…..it’s the damn laptop that takes away my precious reading time π₯
Now that you are away from FB, I think your books are very happy π
book π my head will turn up so fast only if some one speaks about the novels π Its really good you are back to your books, many don’t understand that joy of reading it π I will be happy now I can learn few more books name π which I haven’t heard π so keep listing and keep reading π
hehehe, thanks pa. So true, the joy of reading is to be experienced π
You sound so much like me in this post. π
Glad you are able to make some time for reading these days.
And, do read The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini if you haven’t already. You’ll love it.
Well, hello mirror π
Yeah, am enjoying it. I should, soon π
There is something about books that revives u!!! There is something about doing what you love that it makes u so so so happy that everything else seems immaterial!!!
And ur family sounds like mine! My MIL feels the books that I read are bad influence and I shud read spiritual ones!! As if!!!
Yeah, true that π
Haha, my MIL will see the book cover and ask what is it about. I will say murder mystery and the look on her face will be priceless π
I think I am the only one in my khandaan who can read and *gasp* has a library of his own. Geet has zero interest in reading and she tsk tsks when I ‘waste’ money on books. She does all this while ordering earrings on Jabong.
I hear the tsk tsk too π π
Earrings online, nice π
Same was the case with hubby and in-laws. But now they have picked up the reading habit!! Hubby tells me that when i went to my parents’ place, all them were spending their time reading my books!!! How is Thousand Splendid Suns?!
Wow, that is a good transformation π
TSS is great, it leaves you with a bittersweet feeling….wanting you to live each moment and being grateful for whatever you are bestowed with π
